I was interested to read this anthology of stories and found a few that reminded me of my teenage self. Colorism is predominant in the black community based on skin tone, and I am considered fair skin compared to my family. I am a black female who grew up along the poverty line in a low-income city. I thought this would give me more insight into what it is like to be black in America from a variety of perspectives of POC authors. According to the School Library Journal, this book is geared for grades 9 and up.
